Shincheonji, Church of Jesus, the Temple in the Tabernacle from the Testimony (SCJ), commonly known as Shincheonji or simply just Shincheonji, is an offshoot Christian new spiritual movement recognized in South Korea by Lee Man-hee.

Shincheonji’s teaching promises that their founder Lee will be the pastor predicted in the New Testament, the appointed successor of Jesus Christ, and this the Book of Revelation is printed in secret metaphors which only Lee can do deciphering. Prior to founding his very own spiritual motion, Lee was a member of a debatable group known as the Olive Tree, a brand new religious movement which spawned the initial countercult movement in post-war Korea.

Shincheonji shows that it is the actual belief featuring its members getting salvation during the time of final verdict. Everyone not inside the group is going to be denied forgiveness and ruined.

In 2020, the group became the middle of extreme scrutiny during the COVID-19 pandemic in South Korea. The outbreak of coronavirus cases in Korea was first focused inside the city of Daegu after having a 61-calendar year-aged Shincheonji member called Patient 31 contaminated other chapel associates creating the pandemic to surge in Daegu. As the disease distribute among Shincheonji’s members and 1000s of other people, the group’s creator and leaders refused to have tested, citing their spiritual values to privacy, which ended in a national outcry from the group. Shincheonji members also resisted federal government attempts at monitoring the distribute of pandemic and execution of social distancing rules and motivated the Seoul City federal government to file legal complaints to state prosecutors against 12 leaders from the sect accusing the audience of homicide, leading to damage, and violating the Contagious Disease and Control Act.

Responding to the negative mass media attention on Shincheonji, Lee Man-hee spoke publicly about becoming confusing or falsely charged.

The group is apocalyptic and messianic in character, and it has been identified as a doomsday cult. The group’s founder and leader Lee is actually a self-proclaimed messiah; church followers variously make reference to him as “Chairman Lee”; “the chairman”; “the guaranteed pastor”; “the one who overcomes”; or “the recommend.” Adherents believe that Lee contains the spirit from the sent back Jesus Christ which the Bible is printed in secret metaphors (hidden manna) which only Lee can properly interpret. The group feels that at the time of Verdict, Lee uses 144,000 “closed” adherents to confirm the “exposed word” around the world, who will constitute the “Wide variety in White-colored” who will visit Paradise with him, in which they will likely appreciate everlasting life.

The group is known for its aggressive, and deceptive proselytizing methods. Having a bad picture in well known South Korean society, Shincheonji leaders have at times directed their members to lay about becoming enthusiasts from the group, even though the group has said that doing this is not really its official plan. The audience is considered heretical by well known Christian denominations.

In March 14, 1984, Lee established Shincheonji and opened its initially temple that June in Anyang, Gyeonggi Province. Account grew and in June 1990 the Zion Christian Objective Center was recognized in Seoul. In 1995, the account inside South Korea was split into 12 Tribes, in accordance with geographic territories. In 1999, the headquarters had been transferred to Gwacheon, that features a prophetic which means within Shincheonji theology. Mainline Christian churches grew to become alarmed at the losing of members, and the first cases vhkumf deprogramming Shincheonji members started in 2003. Within 2013 a NGO called the Divine Culture, Planet Serenity, Restoration of Lighting (HWPL) was established, which included non-Shincheonji members, and HWPL obtained special consultative status at the United Nations Financial and Interpersonal Authorities in 2017.
